short films
i have enjoyed and been honoured to study and teach film, be president of my college film club, produce, direct, write, and act in my own work and the projects, capstones, and MFA theses of other passionate artists of colour who are also committed to spotlighting and celebrating our stories.
when i was riding the high of 2019, i made the move from nyc and very briefly became a production assistant in los angeles, right before a global pandemic redirected me to the bay area, where i found new material, an old love, and a whole lot of inspiration.
youโll see that work here. people often ask me if iโd consider leaving teaching to return to film, but i never left. what makes me a talented, effective, and joyful educator comes from the fact that iโm an artist. and what makes me an energized, multifaceted artist is a love of learning and sharing knowledge.
half a deck of cards (2021)
frontal lobe developed, sort of.
the switch (2019)
shooting on location during pride month? multiple kinds of chaos.
technicolored people (2019)
as you can imagine or tell, i try to siphon art out of life as much as i can. sometimes, that includes low quality footage of high quality times.
leading without a mirror: code-switching & leading students who donโt look like you (2019)
for a leadership summit following the theme of intersectionality, i interviewed five student leaders at marymount manhattan college โ all women of colour, all from different parts of the world and paths in life: two native new yorkers, two international students, and one from out of state. through our conversations, i was able to learn more about the spaces and ways in which race and gender influence leadership styles of minorities, if at all. i gained more insight and empathy than i expected, which was refreshing and helped mitigate any confirmation bias.
the madness to the method (2018)
i tried to produce a rom com, among everything else i tried to do in my life. it didn't happen. so i decided to poke fun at the madness behind my creative methods, which are sporadic and stressful at times. this ended up being much more fun than following through on the original inception. art, and life, can be pleasantly surprising like that.
this must be the place (2018)
it was my last homecoming of college, and the word โhomecomingโ has meant a lot of different things over the years. this is footage i'd collected leading up to my senior year of homegoings that still bring end with me in new york.
to this day, i still make annual pilgrimages. for the nostalgia. for the sunsets. for the romantic energy of long car rides to and from the airport.
three little words (2017)
my first short film in college, and a test in working with the only two students of South Asian heritage (who were not acting majors but took direction like champs) at the predominantly white art school I went to.
